Our Team
Max Tattenbach | Founder and Vice-President
Founder of Costas Verdes, tree lover, and passionate about the regenerative economy. Working on mechanisms that will restock the ocean with fish, restore degraded ecosystems and enhance public coastal spaces for a better living.
During his free time you can find Max surfing, trekking, biking or practicing some yoga.
Max holds a graduate degree from Yale and is currently leading Central America’s largest offshore aquaculture project.
Gerardo Bolaños | Executive Director
Even though born and raised in San José, “Gerarbol” always felt at home at the beach and immersed in nature. After graduating as a biologist with an emphasis in Ecology and Sustainable Development in Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, he moved to Nosara in 2008 pursuing his dream to surf everyday and explore nature.
Gerardo joined Costas Verdes as a volunteer of BarriGuiones, our main project in the North Pacific, since its very beginning in 2011, leading Costas Verdes as a volunteer in Nosara, until 2013. Soon after, he became the Costas Verdes director for our projects in this area, and has co-created and leads Costas Verdes reforestation projects since then. More than anything, he loves to learn, share, educate, and inspire people.
Rolando Molina | North Pacific Field & Nursery Officer
Rolando, a native from Nosara, started his journey with Costas Verdes in August 2014, when we first recruit a team of field workers in order for our reforestation project in Guiones, as well as in our Nosara tree nursery. Rolo’s humbleness, sense of responsibility, transparency, loyalty and honesty are features that stand out since we met him, and we are very fortunate to lead the field work in our North Pacific projects since then. Rolando likes engaging with volunteers, and practicing his English whenever he gets a chance to do so.
It has been an honor to watch him over the years, growing as a person and empowering himself with knowledge, passion and work skills, as well as building a strong confidence leading field workers in both the nursery and field projects.
José Daniel Díaz | North Pacific Field & Nursery Sub-Officer
Another native of Nosara, José Daniel already had a background as a gardener before joining our North Pacific team and becoming Rolando’s right hand in January 2019. José Daniel, although a little shy, he is absolutely knowledgeable when it comes to working out in the field, as in tree nurseries. José Daniel came to Costas Verdes not only to help keeping our reforestation projects prospering, but to adding value and resources to our team as providing constant feedback coming from his vast experience. We can’t wait to see how far will Jose Daniel will grow with us over the years!
Brandon López | Santa Marta Nursery Officer
Brandon, a Nosara local, joined our team after helping us for several months with specific projects at our Nosara nurseries, and on which he received training and discover a passion for trees. Once we opened our tree nursery in Santa Marta in late 2022, we didn’t think twice to give Brandon the opportunity to join our staff. Brandon consistently surprises us with new ideas and his thirst for continuing learning.
